In the first solo exhibition named ‘Sweet Shades of Memories’, Nguyen Hoang Ngan features a series of 30 new paintings by acrylic on canvas and paper. By using an artistic language, Ngân tried to tell us her personal narrative about ‘those that comes out from subconsciousness, they have different shades and they are probably sweet.’ Being well known as a popular fashion designer in Vietnam, Nguyen Hoang Ngan confessed her approach to fine art is naïve and flying like a child’s dream. Since 2015, after many years successfully creating and building her own fashion brand, Ngân started to invest more time to arts as a serious painter. “I’ve came to paintings since I was a little girl, started my first drawing at 6, and until now I still chose fine art to be representative for my fashion designs, to tell my stories, even secrets and to describe my deepest feelings, ideas.” Artworks of this exhibition are improvised and emotional, almost came from her pure instinct, with ‘dancing’ hatches actively showed on each painting. The blending in her works sometimes colorful and fashionable, sometimes minimalist with only black and white. If there is something influenced on Ngân’s concept, it must be the stories about scents of the flowers she loves, the grace in dancers’ movements on the background classical music she listens every day, which stayed in her memory. Those images popped out unconsciously, transferred onto her paintings when she was on the highest pick of inspiration. In most of her works, we can tend to feel somewhere the ‘glaze’ of a fashion designer, who’s passionately transforming herself to arts.
