Artist Recognition
Artist featured in a collection
Having had a career in the city, the artist returned to university to study Fine Art and since graduating has spent much of his time working in or being inspired by religious buildings. The artist produced the original relief cut of St Pauls, from which this show takes its title, in 2015. In the intervening 8 years, the artist continued, in his spare time, working on a series of relief works, made after visiting some of the more notable holy buildings of Europe, the 8th and last of which (St Peters Basilica) he completed this year. As part of the celebrations marking 300 years since the passing of Sir Christopher Wren, the artist was asked to display this now finished body of work. Having produced a limited edition set of hand pressed, relief prints, as well as smaller edition of screen prints, for all 8 works, Steven has now retired the relief blocks, turning them into art objects in their own right. Taking their influence from Salviati’s golden mosaic reredos located at the artists own studio in St Saviours, Highbury. The blocks have been framed by 24 Karat gold leaf and inked one final time.
