Anvil explores the connection made between four geometric shapes - a cone, sphere, cylinder and a convex disk. The broad base of the sculpture and flat cross-section of the disk was influenced by the shape of an anvil. The position of the hemispherical shape at one end of the disk affects its balance by drawing it downwards. The sculpture also resembles an old fashioned bassinet. This sculpture has an LED light mounted inside. This sculpture will be bubble wrapped and shipped securely in a heavy duty cardboard box. Weight: 3.7 kg

Tension and balance of contrasting shapes play a major role in my sculptures. I explore the aesthetic beauty of shapes found in biology and the human form and juxtapose these with designs found in manufactured products. In doing so, I strive to disrupt the symmetry and predictability of these forms, while preserving the integrity of the sculpture. Originally from England, I emigrated to New Zealand in 1989 where I started a course in bronze sculpture. After exhibiting in New Zealand, I returned to England in 1993 for a limited period, to pursue my dream as a maker of abstract bronze sculptures and also to continue with my other passion for creative writing. During my time in England I had several exhibitions and gained a Master of Arts at Cardiff University. I returned to New Zealand in 2002 and in 2006 I had my first sculpture cast in glass. It was not until 2017 that I was able to buy a kiln to cast my own work. In addition to bronze and cast glass sculptures, I have been keen to look at ways of producing affordable sculpture by making sculptures in molded polyethylene that are lit internally using a LED light.
