The main entrance road to Pueblo Eden is unpaved and vehicles are asked to go slow, enjoy nature. All are warned that the only ones flying here are the birds, and that this is a slow town. This main road continues for four blocks and then it keeps going and disappears into the rolling hills and the horizon. When weddings are celebrated in town everyone is invited and celebrations happen throughout the little village, surrounded by green hills and delicately brightened by the sun. Animals show up in town as any other creature. So although the dog does not belong to the just married couple, he still poses for the photo, along with a neighbor’s cat. Guinea fowls, mulitas and lizards also show up in their smartest form and ready to mingle. The kids with the maypoles have been practicing for weeks to elegantly carry the flowers and let the ribbons flow, like a stream. There are many more stories to tell about this and other weddings, this is just a snapshot the young photographer took (it is his first wedding gig, but no one else knows). This painting was part of the solo exhibit “Painting stories from Pueblo Eden” at the Museo Regional de Arte, Maldonado, Uruguay, 2019.

Sabina Puppo grew up in a family of artists. Sabina’s art education started under the tutelage of her grandparents and father. Sabina paints what is on her mind with a harmonious palette and a rhythmic flow of lines and details. Sabina found success early in her art career. When she was 6 years old, one of her drawings drew a bidding war between two art collectors. Another of her drawings was selected for the cover of a record. Before her 10th birthday she sold prints of her drawings and donated funds to Children's Hospitals. Throughout her career she focused on figurative ink drawings with intricate details. In her mid-forties she and her husband moved to a farmhouse in a tranquil little piece of paradise that proudly calls itself Pueblo Eden in the Uruguayan countryside. In 2021, she and her husband moved back to the USA and established her art studio in Leesburg, Virginia. Sabina has been influenced by Henri Rousseau, Caleb Ives Bach and Francisco Toledo. She treasures early American folk art, romanesque, pre-columbian and Native American art. Sabina loves painting stories about life in nature. “Joyful” and “uplifting” are the words most often used to describe her artwork. Sabina’s oil paintings celebrate rural landscapes and Nature in general. Other paintings depict life in New England, where she lived for decades. Her art has been exhibited in Uruguay, the United States, Italy and Bulgaria. Her work has endeared her to many collectors who have taken her art to private collections in Uruguay, Argentina, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, UK, Israel, Japan, Canada and the United States. Sabina’s wish: “I hope you enjoy the paintings as you get to imagine your own stories. I would love for a painting to bring up a pleasant memory or a smile! Each painting is unique and original, and they have been imagined and painted with great joy.”
