EYO FESTIVAL is a Yoruba festival that celebrates the culture of the people of Lagos. This painting depicts the ceremonial dance of the EYO masquerades. The EYO festival is usually held as a tourist event in the heart of Lagos. The EYO festival is also known as the Adamu Orisha play. The EYO festival may also be held also as a ceremonial ritual for a chief or elder of a ruling family. The masquerades are dressed in a white flowing costume, the top robe, and a bottom wrap around with a staff . No part of the person carrying the EYO can’t be seen. I made this painting to showcase the culture and heritage of my state, Lagos state. This is a collectors item and a powerful piece of art work and would be great in an office, home setting etc. It is definitely a conversation starter.
