DENNIS SHIELDS sculptor. painter. printmaker & Maker of miscellaneous objects. E, Mail, BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS Born Liverpool, England 1947. Attended night classes at Liverpool College of Art, 1960. Emigrated to Canada 1964. Studied at Ontario College of Art, 1970 - 1973. During first year at College he decided to specialise in sculpture. Birks Foundation awards in years 2 & 3. Commissioned to carry out various sculptural works including work for TIME magazine, for which he received an award from the Art Directors Club of Toronto. Designed the Canadian National la-crosse trophy 1971. won 2nd. Prize at the Canadian National outdoor sculpture exhibition. 1972. Worked for and with the Canadian sculptor Leonhard Oesterle (former studio assistant to Fritz Watruba) Awarded the `Lieutenant Governor-General Of Ontario medal ' for proficiency in sculpture in final year at College. Returned to Britain in 1973 - attended Teacher Training College in 1975. Taught Art & Design from 1975 to 1997. Retired from teaching in 97 in order to Concentrate more fully on his own work. Former member of the Glasgow Group. Married With 5 children. Lives and works in Gourock, Scotland
