This piece is part one of four paintings within the series 'A Love That Never Tires'. The series is inspired by William Hogarth's 'Marriage A La Mode' and Paula Rego's 'Betrothal, Lessons, Shipwreck' (a response to Hogarth's piece). It is a contemporary response to the emotion of love, showing my personal experience and relationship with my partner, family, friends and self. Around all four edges of the canvas is written 'A Love That Never Tires', where the repetition of the title echoes how the love of the relationships will never tire out. Whilst this series is reflecting my own experience, I intend for the works to remind the viewer of their relationships, through colour, composition and place.

Ella Jackson (b.2001) lives in both London and Dorset. Graduating in 2023 from Central Saint Martins in BA (Hons) Fine art, her practice fundamentally explores human relationships and the emotion of love. Personal experiences of these themes is how her work currently exists, with the subjects within each piece being a close relative or friend. Whilst the audience may not directly know the subjects, she intends for the works to emit a sense of the familiar, connecting them to their own relationships, through colour, composition and place. The process in making the paintings begins with colour, with the manipulation of additional colours placed on a coloured surface being of interest. Her palette is predominately been warm tones of pink, orange and greens with the intention of mimicking the warmth and comfortable nature of love. Each work is a gradual build-up of delicate, intimately applied brush strokes. Whilst not adhering to the science and colour theory behind ‘Pointillism’, the style of each stroke is arguably of a similar nature. They show the labour of the artist’s hand. Whilst being laborious and time consuming, there is coherence between the paintings’ process and theme. The cumulative brush strokes imitate the gradual development of building a relationship, taking both time and effort.
