Chile
Born in Chuquicamata, a northern town in Chile, Yordi Vieyte (1989) is a designer and artist who holds a Masters degree in Territory and Landscape from Universidad Diego Portales. In 2016, Vieyte exhibited his work in Chile, at the Biblioteca de Santiago in collaboration with the chilean Department of Libraries, Archives and Museums (DIBAM), and in the US at the ATM Art Gallery in Austin, Texas. He was an artist-in-residence at this last gallery, where he had the chance to create new pieces and expand his research project. During this residency, Vieyte participated of a workshop at the Texas State University, in collaboration with the professor, artist, and photographer Mark Menjivar. This experience allowed him to develope a new perspective for his creation. In 2018 Vieyte's video art piece "singing in the rain" was screened at Moose Art Space and Holaa! Festival in The Hague, Netherlands. In July he was invited to participate in the 5th edition of Aquemarropa Residences in Alicante, Spain. Where he exhibited and expanded his research to the Valencian community, besides participating in mentorships with Eva Lootz, Isidro Blasco, Daniel G. Andujar, Belén Romero, among others. In August of the same year he participated in the artistic and ecological residence named Joya: AiR, located in the Natural Park Sierra de María Los Vélez. Directed by Donna & Simon Beckmann in Almería, Spain. In his work, Vieyte proposes a critical look at the world around us, exhibiting arguments, desires and questions with an almost scientific rigor. His work uses the landscape as the center of all creation and human interaction, and not as the mere basis or soil. The landscape determines as much as it is determined and art is the tool to put this symbiosis in evidence.
