Contemporary photographic rendition of a bronze statue by Belgian sculptor Julien Dillens (1849–1904): Le Laurier (The Laurel). Created as an allegory for glory in victory, it represents a victorious man supported by the large wings of an eagle. I believe that the figure originally held a laurel branch in his right hand. Created circa 1894–1898, the statue is part of an installation at the Jardin Botanique de Bruxelles in Belgium. In this photo artwork the background is removed to focus on the elegance and craftsmanship of the statue, and a high contrast treatment highlights the unique bronze decay pattern. The photograph is recomposed into a white square space to give the artwork a very contemporary look, in contrast to the statue that was created at the end of the 19th century. An independent artist and freelance graphic designer, I take fine art photographs and explore the possibilities of photo-based digital art. While taking photographs in mostly urban settings, I also focus on manipulated photography to create abstract compositions, photo illustrations, and digital mixed media art. My love for graphic design is a strong influence on my recent abstract work. You will notice that geometry, symmetry, pattern, textures, white backgrounds, and simple shapes are recurring themes. Most of my artworks can have multiple editions that are based on print dimensions—such as a 12x8 edition, 18x12 edition, and 24x16 edition. To increase the collecting value, each edition is limited to one print (single edition print) and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Learn more at [ michelgodts.art/single-edition-prints ].
