About The Artwork
The box canyon pass, carved by settlers to California in the mid-19th century, is a preserved section of the overland trail. It forms part of the overland stage route of the 1850s which traversed the Southwest desert to San Diego, California. Ocotillo plants are visible on the tops of the cliffs. The pass is now part of the Anza-Borrego desert park. The original painting is on a quality linen canvas stretched on a wood frame.
